Kayaking with Betwixt the River Outfitters | Community Spirit

MARION, SC (WMBF) – For 17 years, Betwixt the River Outfitters has been bringing water sports to many, giving everyone a chance to experience great bodies of water in our area.

If you’re looking for adventure in the Pee Dee, Betwixt the River Outfitters has everything you need to satisfy your thirst and your outdoor wish is their command.

“We offer tours on several local rivers,” said Giles Page, owner of Betwixt the River Outfitters. “Canoe and Kayak tours, [moonlight] dinner paddles, some camping trips. Kind of whatever you want.”

Betwixt is an Old English word meaning “between”, signifying “between the rivers” the Pee Dee is so well known for.

“They say you should travel and see the world and see what everything else is like,” Kayaker Robbie Taylor said. “Well, you should also do things around home. This is what we should be proud of to have an environment like this and come out and enjoy it. That’s what it’s here for.”

While some enjoy these water sports for the exercise, others take a more laid back approach.

“It’s a natural stress reliever. You come out here and you can get away, relax, and if you don’t want to paddle you can just float.”

It’s been years since WMBF News Anchor Heather Biance has been out paddling with a kayak, and managed to get caught up in a tree. She eventually got the hang of steering, and was able to soak it all in.

Out in the element, many can truly experience nature the way it’s meant to be experienced – with the sun shining, the wind blowing and a solitude that can’t be found very often.

“My favorite thing is definitely being outdoors and when you’re in a kayak, you don’t have the sound of a motor. [If] there’s not many people around, we can go out and be completely by ourselves.”

Another unique experience from Page is their moonlit river paddle. Guests can go out in the river for a few hours, stop and cook dinner on a bank or a sandbar and then head back to the landing once the sun has set.
