HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The Horry County government has announced that mosquito spraying will be conducted Sept 3 - Sept 7. , weather permitting, in the following areas:

Cates Bay
Socastee
Longs
Galivants Ferry
Red Hill

Aerial spraying will be conducted in the evenings usually between 7 p.m. - dusk and ground operations from 7 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Farmers worried about SC peaches already blooming

AIKEN, SC (AP) The warm winter already has some peach trees blooming, and that has farmers worried.

Cold Creek Nurseries Manager Alan Maclay told media outlets that a hard freeze is devastating after peach trees begin to bloom.

Some farmers are already reporting blooms on trees, which is very unusual for early February. Cold weather can help peaches, but freezes are devastating after the buds on the tress have opened.

A late freeze in April 2007 ruined the peach crop in most of Aiken County.
