MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Transportation Security Administration is recognizing 10 years of operations at Myrtle Beach International Airport.

TSA was created in the wake of 9/11 to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce. Within a year, TSA assumed responsibility for security at the nation’s airports and deployed a federal workforce to screen commercial airline passengers and baggage.

Marion man dies in weekend crash

MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One man is dead after a crash in Marion County Sunday afternoon. 

Cpl. Bob Baras with the South Carolina Highway Patrol tells WMBF News that a Ford Explorer was traveling south on U.S. 501 Bypass around 2:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Baras explains the SUV ran off the left side of the road, hit a pole and flipped. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Report: SC highway accidents claim 11 lives over the weekend

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announced Monday 11 people were killed on SC highways over the weekend.

According to the SCDPS report, as of July 15, 434 people have died on SC highways compared to 430 deaths in 2011.

Of the 292 car drivers who have died so far in 2012, 180 were not wearing seat belts, according to the report.

Since midnight on Sunday, 53 pedestrians, 61 motorcyclists and 11 bicyclists have died on the state roads and highways.
